[Connor hesitates, staring at the rune. He doesn't want to have this conversation. And Haytham, of all people, is the last person he wants to have it with. But he doesn't have many alternatives, and he has to know. So he asks:]
Have you seen Mother recently? I lost contact with her some time ago, and have received no word from her since. Nor have I been able to find her in Gridania...
[Haytham didn't exactly expect Ziio to immediately want steady or regular contact with him though they were not too far from one another. Still, her silence had been unusual. So, to say Haytham hadn't expected this conversation sooner or later would be a lie.]
No. I haven't spoken to her since she settled in Gridania. I was hoping that perhaps the two of you had remained in contact.
We did, until I could no longer reach her rune. That was over a week ago.
[Which usually only means only one thing.
Connor wants to be angry and blame something, anything -- but what? Himself, for not remaining closer to her? She'd vowed not to leave him again, and he'd vowed to her they'd find a way home together. Both vows were now broken. The dragons? No. Anything they provided here was borrowed time, something Connor had always been keenly aware of. He doesn't even have any Lees or Washingtons to hold accountable, this time.]
[Haytham is not concerned about Connor. It's questionable if he even knows how to be concerned about Connor. But it's more than likely going to be a fruitless search. He'd be better off accepting the truth of the matter and moving on.]
[Honestly, it's like talking to a child sometimes if only because Haytham has so very little patience to offer anyone these days and least of all to Connor.]
And what harm could have possibly befallen your mother, hm? I can't imagine she'd have left the forest without informing you and there haven't been any reports of anything out of the ordinary happening there either.

I will keep looking, then.

I trust my own eyes more than I trust a rune. What if something has happened to her, and that is why she cannot respond?

[It's a low blow, maybe, but Connor cares about his mother before anything else. Including Haytham's stupid pride.]
I do not care if you think it is a waste of time. I am going to look for her.

Do as you will then. Don't let me stop you.

[BYE thanks for not being helpful at all.]
